Read and demonstrate and understanding of literary texts, using a range of strategies to construct meaning.

Recognize stylistic elements and demonstrate an understanding about how they communicate meaning.

Generate and organize ideas and information to write for an intended audience and purpose

Use knowledge of language conventions and proofreading skills to correct errors, refine expression, and present work effectively.

Discuss ideas in my literature circles using evidence from the text.

Analyze and evaluate ideas, issues, and themes in a literary text by writing a literary essay.

Identify and analyze the perspectives and/or bias evident in texts.

Create detailed reader’s journals that include my observations and inferences about narrative voice, characterization, and language.

Draw conclusions about the author’s choices about different stylistic elements in my synthesis papers.

Select and use ideas generated in literature circle meetings and reader’s journals to respond to prompts in synthesis papers.

Write in well-developed paragraphs using “state, illustrate, explain.”

Integrate quotations using correct punctuation and citations.

Apply MLA formatting to my paper

Produce media texts for a variety of purposes and audiences.

Use editing, proofreading, and publishing skills and strategies and knowledge of language conventions to correct errors, refine expression, and present our work. I can produce pieces of published work that meet the criteria identified by my teacher
I can read a variety of literary, informational and graphic texts, using a range of strategies to construct meaning. I can apply a literary theory to a complex text to develop an interpretation of the text.
