Tuesday September 15/15

As part of our 21 day happiness challenge (I’ve decided to name it). We’re starting with 5 minutes of meditation.

Then I’m going to talk to you about your CCA book choices (see post below this one).

After that we’ll return to rhetorical strategies and you’ll have 15 minutes to either finish your assignment from yesterday, or work on your formative project.

Then we’ll take a look at parallel structure. You can find the lesson on our elearning site.

For tomorrow you will have time to work on your formative projects so come prepared to work independently. We will also have a lesson on a few different stylistic writing techniques.

CCA Book List

For those of you wondering which books would count as having sufficient literary merit for a CCA in ENG3UE, please consult the following list. This does not mean that you can’t choose a book not on the list, but it should give you a sense of the type of novel that will be approved.

Be aware that there are some choices on the list that I can’t approve because they’re either used in other courses or are used in our own: eg/ Hamlet, The Great Gatsby, etc.

I want you to have your book approved by Monday so please get started on this ASAP.

Monday September 14/15

So as you know we had to change the plan slightly on Friday since I had to stay home with my sick baby yesterday (he’s fine now!).

But we’re not too far off track. I want to talk to you about your CCA project. Then we will work on a lesson on rhetoric. Then you will work on that lesson while I start project proposal conferences.

If you’re away, you can find the lesson posted in our elearning site.

Friday September 11

Today I will conference with you about your project proposals. These conferences will continue Monday in class. I have netbooks signed out for Monday if you need access to technology to work on your project, but I don’t have enough for everyone. If you need a laptop to work on and are able to bring in one from home, that would really help.

Thursday September 10

Enter gotitans as your class code.

Pick your name from the drop down list.

Once you’re in you should see an assignment waiting for you. The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

When you’re done you can keep working on your project proposal. Remember, those are due Friday.

Wednesday September 9

Today we’re going to be in room 208.

First I’ll get you to complete the student information form (scroll down to yesterday’s post).

Second, I’m going to get you to log in to https://tvdsb.elearningontario.ca/

You will log in using the same username and password you use to log in to the computers.

Find our class: ENG3UE.

We’ll be working on an exercise to review literary devices and we’ll play a kind of crazy game to see how well you know them.

We’re back in here again tomorrow.

Homework: Work on your project proposal. Due Friday

Welcome to Grade 11 Enriched English

Please check this blog regularly for information about our class.

Today we’re going to do all the usual first day stuff, but we’re also going to work on trying to define what makes this “enriched” grade 11 English.

Here are digital versions of the handouts you’re getting today:

If you have a cell phone, I would appreciate it if you would sign up for Remind 101 which is a service that lets me send text messages to our class. It does not give either of us access to each other’s cell numbers and we can’t send one to one messages back and forth. The only thing I would use it for would be to send you reminders about assignments or homework. Alternatively, you can sign up using your email. Here’s how you sign up:

Next, we’ll be heading to the computer lab tomorrow, but to save some time, you could fill this out before class tomorrow: ENG3UEinvite
