Today we’re going to be in the computer lab 211 to start research for your reports.

Our main focus for today is getting you familiar with Diigo. If you’ve used Diigo before you are going to use a different login for this project because I’ve created a student account for everyone in this class.

1) Go to www.diigo.com

2) Log in. Your username will be your first name followed by ceci(danikaceci) and your password is titans. If you want to change your password you can.

3) I’ve automatically added you to a group called research report so that you can all see each other’s bookmarks.

4) Save the diigolet tool to your favourites.

5) Go to the following webpage to practise bookmarking, highlighting, and annotating: http://helpguide.org/mental/self_injury.htm

6) Go to your favourites and open the diigolet (You may need to sign in once it’s open).

7) The Diigolet tool doesn’t work perfectly on school computers. Unfortunately each time you go to a new web page you’ll have to open the Diigolet tool again from your Favourites, but you shouldn’t have to log in every time.

8) Find a webpage that you think might be helpful for your research. Bookmark it. Tag it with key words. Make sure you share it to the research report group. Make a sticky note on the page and highlight some text.

9) Once you’ve done all the steps outlined in number 8, you can finish your bookclub questions for tomorrow. If you’re done your questions, continue doing reseach.

Your good copies of your business letters are due today. Please submit them with your peer editing sheet.

Today we’ll start with some silent reading/book club question time.

Then we’ll start talking about the research report which is the culminating task for this unit.

Today we will be going to the lab (211) to work on our book club ning. Those of you who are not yet finished your pitches or trailers must complete them this period. If you are already finished, write a blog post today on connections that you’re able to make between your book and movies, books, non-fiction, or experiences. Explain how thinking about those connections help you understand your book.

IT’s Wednesday, which means we’ve reached another bookclub day.

In order to participate, please ensure that your discussion questions and bookmark questions are complete and are in your folder.

Today’s lesson prior to the bookclub meetings will be on making connections. This will lead in to your research report assignment.

Tomorrow you will have blog time to work on your movie trailer/pitch but it must be completed by the end of class so if you may need to do some work on it tonight.

Our focus for today will be the business letter.

You are going to write a business letter to the developers of your book club unit identifying the strengths and weaknesses of this unit.

Please ensure your discussion questions for your book club are in your folders by the end of the period.

Today you’ll have some time to do your reading and questions for this week’s book clubs.

Blogging day!
Your first task is to comment on at least two other blog posts from last week and respond to any comments on your blog.

Then you will begin working on your film pitch or movie trailer. Have a look at some of the ones posted from last year for examples.

Consider using Photopeach to create your movie trailer. If you’re absent, you can download or view a copy of the assignment here.

Book club today!

Your bookmark questions and 3 additional discussion questions need to be in your folder by the end of the period today so we will have a work period. Please use your time well.

Today we’ll start with some silent reading. A number of you weren’t prepared for last week’s book club meetings and that will affect your mark, so let’s not let it happen again. Use your time well.

Then I’d like to look at some of your writing in role work from last Thursday’s blog posts. If you weren’t here on Thursday or if you didn’t get yours finished, you need to complete it before this week’s book club meeting.

Finally, I will have you get into your book club groups to complete a reading for inference activity.
