Great way to get my brain cells sparking on the first day of a break. I’ve always respected the devices that MIT has developed, but, call me a luddite, but this one scares the daylights out of me.
I was O.K. at first glance of this: http://tinyurl.com/b9rp93 as I remembered the movie “Minority Report”. Thought that was neat. A few other movies have followed with this type of technology/effects.
I guess I just think that the amazingly bright folks at the MIT media lab could come up with better examples than buying toilet tissue or a book. What about all the folks with disabilities that a device like this would help? And the “data mining abilities” when you “shine” it on someone, yikes.
The technology is amazing but I just can’t help but think that the Media Lab folks had better have a good PLN with the folks over in Sociology, Ethics and Humanities – - just to run it by a few experts who may have some suggestions on next steps.
Your thoughts? Thanks for the great thought provoking post..
