Tuesday October 20/15

Today you will have time to review for the short story test on Friday as well as work on your your reader’s journals for you last literature circle meeting for this book.

Please use your time well.

Monday October 19/15

Today we have our final two short story presentations. Then on Friday we will have our short story test. The test will involve some multiple choice questions about literary theory, some short answer questions about the short stories (including any from the presentations), and a sight passage with questions.

On Wednesday you will have your final literature circle meeting for your first book.

You will have time today after the presentations to read/work on your reader’s journals or review for the test.

Thursday October 15/15

On today’s agenda:

1) Presentation of the “The Shining Houses” from a feminist perspective.

2) Take up of “The Yellow Wallpaper” questions.

3) Reading time for tomorrow’s short stories: “Two Words” and “The Forest of Arden”

Wednesday October 14/15

Today we’re heading over to room 211 so you can work on your presentations. Presentations start tomorrow and the order will be as follows:

Thursday: “The Shining Houses” pg 26 in Imprints.

Friday: “Two Words” pg 51 in Imprints and “The Forest of Arden” pg 134 in Imprints

Monday: “The Chrysanthemums” pg 112 in Imprints and “Everything that Rises Must Converge” everything-that-rises

Tuesday October 13/15

Today is a work period for your short story presentations. Since many of you will likely choose to use something like Powerpoint or Prezi for your visual/audio element in your presentation, I’d like to take some time at the start of class to discuss how to make power point presentations that aren’t terrible. http://blog.ted.com/10-tips-for-better-slide-decks/

Friday October 9/15

Hi everyone,

I’m afraid I have to be away again today. You are blogging in room 208 (and yes I have your reader’s journals. Sorry. Same deal as last time. You must still publish your post before the end of the period but you will be allowed to add ideas next week based on your journals if you need to.)

Topics are posted on the ning (our blogging site.) The link for our site is in the top right corner of this blog.

If you finish before the end of the period, make sure you’ve commented on at least two posts from last time. You can also work on your short story presentations.

That’s all. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday October 8/15

If you were away yesterday, you’ll need to get a copy of the short story presentation assignment from me. You’ll also all need a copy of the short story “Everything That Rises Must Converge” since you will all be responsible for reading all of the short stories being presented.

Today though is our second literature circle meeting. Even if you are not submitting your second set of journals (remember, that’s only an option if you got a level 4 the first time), you need to submit your discussion questions and you still must have your journals in order to participate in the meeting.
